BucRugby 2026 Season Wrap-Up

The Bucs wrapped up its 2026 high school rugby season with a perfect 5-0 regular season and a semifinals finish in another run at a Division 2 state title. While the squad had high hopes to make it to the finals of the Michigan high school rugby playoffs, a top four finish in Division 2 isn’t a bad way to wrap up the season, even it was a little earlier than desired.
With the last month of summer approaching, the coaching staff would like to thank the players, parents, and supporters for helping grow the program and continue its culture of excellence -both on and off the field. Since graduating our first class of rugby players in 2003, we have had more than 400 athletes come through the program, played more than 200 games, and won two state championships. Next year marks 25 years. With a little help, the program will be putting together some fun programs, events, and activities to celebrate a quarter century of BucRugby.
This year, the team played more games than last year. In fact, this could have been the heaviest schedule the Bucs have ever had. The team started with an indoor scrimmage against Brighton in February, traveled to Ohio – twice -, Indiana, and Lansing to play non-conference games, and were one win away from playing in a D2 state championship.

Along the way, many BucRugby players were recognized by Michigan Rugby, their peers, and their coaching staff.

Returning Players
As fall sports spin up as summer winds down, BucRugby returners are asked to promote the team by wearing their jerseys and recruiting. Talk up the sport and its development value for other athletic endeavors. For football players, BucRugby is scheduling tackle training sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Contact bradwarner2@sbcglobal.net if you would like to learn more about the sessions and how to take advantage of them. In addition, Watters Performance is offering contact fitness and training. Contact Jeff Watters at jeff@jeffwatters.com to learn more. Finally, don’t forget joining the wrestling team is a great way to prepare for next spring’s high school rugby season.
