BucRugby Update: Week of April 13, 2025

Weather permitting, we will finally square off against our first opponent of the season this Thursday at 6 p.m., at Derby Middle School against Washtenaw. Hopefully, this week is an end to our waiting and the rest of the season will run smoothly, as we have games every week from here on out to the end of May. Here is a look at how our week will play out.

Practice Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
We are running practice, as usual, at Pierce Elementary, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We will be at Derby playing Washtenaw on Thursday.

Player Fundraising Campaign Kickoff Meeting on Monday
Due to the inclement weather last Monday, we are holding our Vertical Raise Fundraising Campaign kickoff meeting at the end of practice this Monday, April 14, 2025. This is our only player-led fundraising event of our season – and it directly determines the cost of our player dues.

Midwest High School Championship Tournament Travel Meeting on Tuesday
We are holding a Zoom call on Tuesday, April 15, at 8 p.m. to go over our travel planning for our trip to Elkhart, Indiana, on May 2-4 to play in the Midwest High School Rugby Championships and Festival Tournament. We could really use all of our players to make the trip, as we will be playing three games in two days. Contact Brad Warner at bradwarner2@sbcglobal.net for the meeting access information.

Bucs vs. Washtenaw on Thursday
The Washtenaw Rugby Football Club is making the trip from Ann Arbor on Thursday for our 6 p.m. kickoff against them. Players need to be at Derby Middle School at 4:30 p.m. to help prep and dress the field for divisional play. We warm up at 5 p.m., play at 6 p.m. and will be hosting the most match social in the cafeteria at 7 p.m.

Player Kit Jersey Design
Our jersey supplier, Rugby Imports, has mocked up our 2025 player kit jersey design based on the direction provided by our players at the January season planning meeting at the Ward household. We will be discussing it at Monday’s practice to make sure it is how the player’s envisioned it.

Looking forward to a warmer, drier week of rugby fun.
