BucRugby Update: Week of April 27, 2025

Mother Nature continues to wreak havoc on our schedule as we were forced to cancel another game last week. We traveled out to Anchor Bay High School to play three games of sevens, only to have thunderstorms in the area keep ups from taking the field. I am grateful for the players and parents who made the trip, and their patience and understanding as we tried to wait out the storms and get our games in last Friday. Unfortunately, it looks like bad weather will be showing up again on game day this Thursday, when we host Troy at home at 6 p.m. Lets hope that it doesn’t follow us to Elkhart this weekend for the Midwest Boys Rugby Championship and Festival.

We are still at Pierce from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week. We will be splitting our training focuses between preparing to play sevens, as well as our regular season 15s formats.

We need help lining our field at Derby after practice on Wednesday. We are looking for two to three players to help put down rugby lines.

We host Troy United (Troy & Troy Athens High Schools) this Thursday, May 1, at 6 p.m. at Derby Middle School. This is another sevens format and the two games should be fast and furious. Players need to be at Derby at 4:30 p.m. to help dress the field.

The team will be rallying at Groves High School at 6 p.m. to leave for our trip to Elkhart, Indiana, to play in the Midwest Boys Rugby Championship and Festival tournament. We will be assigning transportation to our players at practice on Monday to make sure everyone has a comfortable ride to the hotel.

The Bucs play two matches at the Midwest event on Saturday. The first is against Perrysburg High School at 11 a.m. on the Red Field. The second is against Chesterton at 3 p.m. on the Blue Field.

We wrap up the weekend against Olentangy on Sunday at 10 a.m. on the White Field. We will be heading home directly after the match.
