BucRugby Update: Week of April 6, 2025

The days are getting longer, and hopefully drier, as we head into Week 2 of our regular season schedule. Normally, we would be heading into our second match, but bad weather and divisional changes have given us a bi-week to work with. So, we are going to have some fun on Thursday with a Flag Rugby event open to area high school students (and 8th graders). Here is how this week is looking —

Practice: Same Time, Same Location

We are still practicing at Pierce Elementary from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We will be putting in the work this week to prepare to host Washtenaw at home next week. This is a great week for interested students to come out and give rugby a try.

Player Fundraising Campaign Kickoff Meeting on Monday

We are holding our Vertical Raise Fundraising Campaign kickoff meeting at the end of practice on Monday, April 7, 2025. This is our only player-led fundraising event of our season – and it directly determines the cost of our player dues. We would like players to work with parents to collect at least 20 emails and 10 phone numbers of family, friends and supporters.

Flag Rugby Festival On Thursday

Area students are invited to join the us on Thursday, April 10, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Derby Middle School to play some non-contact flag rugby – no experience necessary! We are holding a fun introduction to rugby passing and rules and running non-contact flag games for boys and girls in 8th to 12th grade. There is no cost to participate, and food will be provided.

Updated Season Schedule

To keep track of all the recent changes, the season schedule on our Forms page has been updated. Please note that we now play Howell on Wednesday, May 21, at 6 p.m. in Howell, and we are traveling to Toledo on Wednesday, May 7, to play the Toledo Junior Celts.

Team Captains and Selectors

The team voted for its 2025 leadership last week and I am proud to announce that Spencer George has been elected Captain, with Miller Mann as Co-Captain. Ronin Schlesener and Henry Ward are Selectors. Congratulations to these fine young men on taking up the mantle of team leadership.

Looking forward to a solid week of practice that wraps up with a fun flag rugby event.
