BucRugby Update: Week of February 22, 2026
Welcome back from Midwinter Break! While our student athletes were off, our staff has been busy firming up our spring schedule, locking down team social events, and finding opportunities to practice and play this coming week.
We have a lot of updating to do, so let’s get to it. . . .
Turf Tundra Training On Monday– Weather permitting, we will be holding practice from 5:30 to 7 p.m. under the lights in the Groves Turf Stadium on Monday, February 23. It is going to be cold, so dress warm, layer up, and wear hats and gloves. We hope to have as many players at tomorrow’s practice as possible. This is our chance to prepare to head to Brighton on Tuesday for our joint practice and mini-games at their indoor turf facility.
Brighton Joint Practice and Mini-Games on Tuesday – We will travel to the Brighton High School Turf Facility (located 4740 Bauer Road, Brighton, MI 48116) for a joint practice and to play some rugby on Tuesday, February 26, from 6:15 to 8 p.m. We need as many players as possible to participate in this program in order to make the travel out to Brighton worth it. To make sure everyone can participate –
- Please register with USA Rugby and/or turn in your player forms packet tomorrow at practice or have it with you on Tuesday. This will allow you to participate in contact drills and games.
- Connect with other players and parents to make sure everyone has a ride out to Brighton. If you need a ride, contact a coach and we will get you in one of our cars or set up a ride with another player/parent.
Turf Tundra Training On Thursday – We will try to get back out under the lights from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Groves Turf Stadium on Thursday. If the weather is bad, we will go with our original indoor practice at Birmingham Covington School from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Six Nations Watch Team Social – The Ward family is generously opening their home to host a team watch part for the England vs. France Six Nations Rugby match on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. Food and beverages are being provided, so we need a solid headcount to plan for this fun event. Please contact bethward78@gmail.com to RSVP.
Sidecar Slider Bar Team Social and Fundraiser – We are kicking off our season with a team social and fundraiser at the Sidecar Slider Bar in Downtown Birmingham on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 6-9 p.m. The venue is donating a percentage of the food sales to our team, so let’s pack the place!
