BucRugby Update: Week of January 25, 2026

Even with the snow falling, high school rugby is heating up. This Thursday we hold our recruiting meeting in the Seaholm cafeteria at 3 p.m. and kick off our indoor training sessions at Birmingham Covington School at 6:30 p.m. Accommodations are booked for our two travel tournaments and we are lining up our team social events.
Here is what is cooking this week –
  • Thursday’s Recruiting and Season Information Meeting – We have our second and final recruiting meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026, in the Seaholm cafeteria from 3 to 3:30 p.m. This recruiting meeting is for any and all student athletes interested in playing rugby for the team this spring. Returning and new students should try to make this meeting if they missed the earlier Groves date. We understand that winter sports will be in full swing. So, we hope our veterans will show up with contact information from interested students that can’t make it.
  • Thursday’s Indoor Practice/Training Session – We begin our indoor practice/training this Thursday at Birmingham Covington School (1525 Covington Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301) from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the gym. We will be working on basic rugby skills development and playing fun games. Gym rental is not cheap. So, we hope to have as many players attend as possible to leverage our budgetary investment.
Here is what is cooking next week –
  • Indoor Turf Field Training – We have rented the large sports field at Pinnacle Performance Center (512 Park Street, Troy, MI 48083) from 8-9 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026. This is a significant investment for us, and we hope to have as many players attend as possible.
  • Indoor Practice/Training Session – We are back at Birmingham Covington School from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026. This is another important practice as we learn rugby and get ready for our joint practice / mini game with Brighton High School at the end of the month.
Here is what we are cooking up  –
The team would like to hold a Six Nations watch party on one of the upcoming Saturdays that have games starting later in the morning or afternoon. It would be great to have a family host the watch party, but also are checking with the Side Car Slider Bar in downtown Birmingham to host, as well. Specifically, we are targeting the Saturday, March 14, France vs. England match that kicks off at 4:10 p.m. EST.
Please email Brad Warner at bradwarner2@sbcglobal.net if you are interested in hosting a Six Nations watch party for the team, parents, and coaching staff.
In the meantime, stay warm and keep shoveling!
