BucRugby Update: Week of March 1, 2026

March has finally arrived and we officially starting our regular season practice schedule. We kickoff the month on the Groves Turf this week, then transition over to Norup International School next week. As other school sports have priority status when it comes to turf time, we will be at different practice locations until April 1.

Before we take a look at our upcoming schedule, I would like to thank the 17 players that made the trip out to Brighton for the indoor practice and scrimmage. The Bulldogs have an incredible facility, and I appreciate you all taking advantage of the opportunity to gain very valuable experience so early in the season.

Practice at Groves This Week – We are under the lights in the Groves Stadium from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week (March 2-5). We will be building our tackle technique from the ground up and teaching the fundamental skills, as well as laws, of the game. We are still looking for players. So please keep recruiting and bringing new talent out to practice.

At Norup Next Week – We transition over to Norup International School (14450 Manhattan St, Oak Park, MI 48237) the week of March 9. We will be practicing here until we can get on our regular season practice field at Pierce Elementary on April 1.

Six Nations Watch Party – The Wards are hosting our Six Nations Watch Team Social on Saturday, March 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. Food and beverages are being provided, so we need a solid headcount to plan for this fun event. Please contact bethward78@gmail.com to RSVP.

Northcoast High School Rugby Festival – Our first travel tournament is coming up on Saturday, March 21. We will be heading to the Four Points by Sheraton Cleveland-Eastlake (35000 Curtis Boulevard, Eastlake, Ohio 44095, +1 440-953-8000) on Friday, March 20, for the night. We will play two games on Saturday and head home. Hotel accommodations, breakfast, lunch, and the tournament registration are covered by the $85 travel fee per player. A Zoom meeting will be scheduled for Sunday evening to go over all the details.

Finally, please register with USA Rugby and/or turn in your player forms packet at practice this week. This will allow you to participate in all aspects of our practice sessions and games. The player forms packet is attached, as well.

Remember to dress in layers to stay warm and we will see you at Groves!
