BucRugby Update: Week of March 22, 2026

Congratulations on a strong performance at the Northcoast High School Rugby Festival this weekend! The team took care of one its season goals by winning both their games – in convincing fashion, I might add! But more important than the wins is the playing experience gained from the two matches on Saturday. We will be building on this real-world rugby experience during practice this week to keep moving forward with our development.

Regarding this week, we are just focusing on practice –

Practice This Week – We are still practicing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Norup International School (14450 Manhattan St, Oak Park, MI 48237). We would love to see all 26 players at practice this week, which will help get everyone on the same development page before we go on Spring Break.

Looking ahead –

No Practice During Spring Break – The team is on Spring Break from March 30 through April 3. We hit the ground running upon our return on April 6, with our first divisional match of the 2026 season on April 9 against Genesee in Flint. We also have our team social and fundraiser (and team merch pickup) on Monday, April 6, and kick off our player Vertical Raise fundraiser on Tuesday, April 7.

Team Social and Fundraiser – We are holding our annual team social and fundraising night on Monday, April 6 at the Side Car Slider Bar in Downtown Birmingham (117 Willits St, Birmingham, MI 48009). A percentage of food sales will be donated to the team to help offset operational costs. So, let’s pack the joint with family, friends, fans, and alumni! We also will be handing out team apparel orders and will have other merch available for purchase.

Player Vertical Raise Fundraiser – We are holding our annual player-led Vertical Raise fundraiser kickoff meeting at practice on Tuesday, April 7. Half of all funds a player raises will be applied to their dues (which cover our operational costs). Our vision is to not charge anyone to play this great sport for this outstanding team. However, we aren’t there yet. But, we can get closer with a solid Vertical Raise fundraising drive.

After spring break, we transition to our regular season schedule. Our games are now set and we will be holding practice at Pierce Elementary from 5:30 to 7:30 starting April 6. Be sure to review the updated schedule on our website’s Forms page.
