BucRugby Update: Week of May 3, 2026
BucRugby Players and Parents:
We have returned from our travel to Elkhart, Indiana, for the Midwest Boys High School Rugby Championships. Our 19 road-weary Bucs played their hearts out against some incredible competition this weekend. Although we lost two and won one, we gained an immeasurable amount of experience and team chemistry that tough competition and tough play can offer. The team now comes back together with its six other members to train on Monday to prepare for Thursday’s match against Anchor Bay High School.
Here is how the week is playing out –
Monday through Wednesday – We are continuing to practice this week at Pierce Elementary from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We need all players to attend our trainings to prepare for our three-game home stand to close out the regular season.
Thursday – The Bucs shift to an Olympics Sevens format on Thursday to take on Anchor Bay High School for our first home game of the season. We will kick off at 6 p.m. at Derby Middle School (1300 Derby Road, Birmingham, MI 48009) and play several games of 7v7 rugby. Players need to be at Derby at 4:30 p.m. to help dress the field for the matches and warn up at 5 p.m.
Looking ahead –
Next week we host our second home game against Detroit Catholic Central High School. This is an exciting must-win match up between the Bucs and the Shamrocks to see who will be in the pole position for the number one seed in the D2 playoffs.
We then close out our season with our final home game against Howell High School on Wednesday, May 20. If we win all three games, mark your calendars for Saturday, May 23, because the Bucs will have earned a spot in the Michigan High School Rugby playoffs.
Believe it or not, we only have five weeks left in the season. So, let’s make each practice and each game count!
