BucRugby Update: Week of May 4, 2025

What a great weekend of rugby in Elkhart, Indiana! The team played three incredible games at the Midwest Boys Rugby Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, coming home 2-1 – just narrowly losing to Olentangy in the third game on Sunday. We hope the players that made the trip enjoyed playing and being a part of a larger high school rugby environment.
With the Midwest tournament behind us, here is what is ahead this week.
Practice Monday & Tuesday
Instead of taking a day off, the players decided to hold practice as usual on Monday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Pierce Elementary. It will be a recovery training designed to loosen up sore muscles and clear out lactic acid. It also will be a fun session, with a version of Australian rules football. Tuesday is preparation for our game against the Toledo Junior Celts on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Scott High School (2400 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo, OH 43620). We will talk about Thursday’s practice after our match on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s Match vs. the Toledo Junior Celts
We will be leaving directly after school on Wednesday to travel down to Scott High School (2400 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo, OH 43620) to play the Toledo Junior Celts’ B-side in a non-conference match. It is an hour and a half of travel, so we need to leave after school to get to match location in time to warm up and take the field. We will discuss player transportation at Monday’s practice.
Looking farther ahead, we will travel back to Anchor Bay High School on Monday, May 12, to make up our Sevens matches that were cancelled April 25. We then play Berkley High School in a conference match in the regular 15s format on Wednesday, May 14 in Berkley.
Finally, I heard some rumors that this year’s playoffs may be held May 30 or May 31, with championships held June 6 or June 7. This isn’t a fact yet, but I wanted to get these likely dates in front of you as quickly as possible.
The rugby game drought is now over and it is a fast and furious run up to the playoffs.
