BucRugby Update: Week of March 30, 2025

The regular season is finally here! We kickoff our divisional play this week against Howell High School at Howell on Wednesday, April 2, at 6 p.m. While our opening game on the road is the most important item on our schedule, we have a lot going on over the next four days.

Monday Practice Location

We are now holding practice for the rest of the season at Pierce Elementary School (1829 Pierce Street, Birmingham, MI 48009) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursdays (depending on game days). A couple of things to keep in mind –

  • Pierce Elementary is locked and there is no access to bathrooms. So, please plan accordingly before heading to practice.
  • There is an afterschool program that uses the playground. Please do not interact with the elementary students and remember to be courteous and polite to school staff.
  • Girls softball will be on the diamond. Please stay on the soccer field(s) and out of the outfield. Again, please be courteous and polite to their program participants.

Team Social and Fundraiser

We will be wrapping up practice a little early to allow players and coaching staff to attend the team social and fundraiser being held at the Sidecar Slider Bar (117 Willits St, Birmingham, MI 48009) on Monday, March 31, from 7-9 p.m. A percentage of all food bills during this time will be donated to the team. Everyone is invited to join us for the evening!

Captains and Selectors Elections

We will be holding elections for 2025 team captains and selectors at the end of practice on Tuesday, April 1. As you know, these three-to-four elected positions are responsible for leading the team, as well as setting the starting lineup (aka “First 15”) for our divisional matches. All players should try to attend this important practice to make sure their voices are heard.

Howell High School Match

We travel to Howell High School (1200 W Grand River Ave, Howell, MI) on Wednesday to play the Highlanders at 6 p.m. Warm up will start at 5 p.m. sharp. As we need to provide our own transportation, please be sure to connect with other players, parents, or the coaching staff if you need a ride to the game. It will take over an hour to get there. So, I would recommend leaving at 3:30 p.m. to make it there by 5 p.m.

Looking forward to next week, we have two important events, along with our regular practice schedule.

BucRugby Flag Rugby Festival

To fill the gap created by canceled Detroit Catholic Central match, we are holding a non-contact flag rugby festival on Thursday, April 10, from 5:30 to 6 pm. at Derby Middle School. Please share this event with fellow students and encourage them to come out and play some flag rugby with you. Program details can be found on our website here. Boys and girls in 9th through 12th grade are welcome to participate – we will even take 8th graders in this non-contact festival design to increase awareness of our team in the greater Birmingham area.

There is a lot going on and to help you keep things straight, be sure to download our updated season schedule on our Forms page.
